The most common reason why a website is not featured on Google is that it is brand new. Google’s crawler simply has not found it yet. You can sign up for your website at Google, but before doing this we recommend that you read our advice below from beginning to end.
Before you make an effort to visualize your website on Google (and other search engines) you should focus on clearing the content. Search engines refuse to show blank, contentless websites in their search results.
Start by killing the basic content. Clear your texts, upload any pictures and make sure your contact information is correct.
A search engine constitutes an idea of your website about the same as a person reading a book or newspaper. In other words, study the text and the rest of the content (pictures, titles, headlines etc).
Example: Should your website have a chance to appear when a customer is browsing ”craftsman in London” then this phrase should be included in the text. Exclude the ”London” part only, as Google may not understand that your website is relevant to search phrases that include just ”London”.
Do you want to be visible when a customer is browsing (example) ”craftsmen in London” then this phrase should be included in the text.
NOTE! Avoid using your keywords unnaturally many times. Google actually sees this as a form of SPAM. Instead, think about how to get your keywords into the text in a natural way. If you have written text of about 200 words, it’s best to get your keyword in around 2 – 10 times (about 1-5% of the total text.)
When the content of your website is complete, tell the search engines that your website exists. You can do this in several ways. A good way to do this is to report the website on Google.
It usually takes somewhere between 1 to 3 weeks before your notification is processed. (NOTE! Avoid typing anything in the comment field. Then you end up in a long queue.)
Creating links to your website is an important factor in making it visible on search engines. One quick (and often free of charge) way to get links is to register your website in so-called link directories. Here are three examples of directories for which Google is highly trusted:
NOTE! The requirement to register your site is usually a backlink, that is, you link from your website to the directory.
Use social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Google + and Linkedin to spread the message about your excellent website and your unique services!
This way more and more people will discover your website and hopefully link to it, which in turn will increase the site’s visibility on search engines.
